Rules Questions
What if a king doesn't show up during the initial period?
We will select a new king from the people present.
Do I win if I checkmate?
Yes. Your team will advance to Round 3. The game will end once either team is checkmated.
Do the pieces get converted back at the end of the game?
Yes. If you have a queen at the end of the game, you will get 120 coins back. Those coins are then exchanged for 240 million yen, total.
Can I transfer yen between groups?
No.
How are teams divided?
The dealer and the two initial kings will divide the teams at a time decided by the dealer (and the initial kings may be allowed input)
I only get 80 coins. How can I buy a queen?
There are several ways to get more coins. You can ask your allies to give you coins, you can stand in your grey squares, and you can capture enemy pieces.
Is there any limitation on buying pieces besides queens, rooks, and coins?
Available positions to put them in. You can't buy a piece if the front two rows are full, since there is nowhere to put it, and you can only place a piece in the second row if there is a piece in the corresponding place in the first row. (i.e. if you are white, you can put a piece in B2 only if there is a piece in B1. if you are black, you can only put a piece in C9 if there is already a piece in C10)
Will there be revival tickets after this round?
Yes. You can purchase a revival ticket after round 2, but before revival round 2, for 200 million yen. There will be auctions for revival round tickets between revival round 2 and round 3. These tickets can only be used for getting into Round 3. You may purchase a revival ticket for another player, even if s/he is not in your group.
Is it possible for players to take my unspent coins?
Yes. You can hand them out. But otherwise, no.
What happens in the event of a tie for the vote for king?
A revote is held with only the players who tied for king as options. If this revote finishes in a tie, we will decide randomly.
When can I move a pawn forward two spaces instead of one?
The first time it moves, regardless of whether it started in the first or second row.
Are yen transfers allowed?
Yes. Unlike previous games, where yen determined the winner, in this game, yen does not. As a result, yen may be tranferred between players.
If a team can escape from check, must they do so?
Not necessarily. If a team can escape from check by moving a piece, then they must escape. However, if the only way they can escape is to buy a piece and place it in a square that blocks their opponent, then they do not have to do so.
Can a player reject the king's permission?
Yes. If a player does not have a piece on the board, they may choose not to move or buy pieces. Even if they have sufficient coins to purchase a piece, they can choose not to do so. However, if a player has a piece on the board that they can move, they cannot reject the king's permission.

How much are contracts? That part was left extremely vague...
EDIT: oh, never mind, I've just read it properly. 25 coins. So 50M again.

Re: Rules Questions
Dys, told ya it would be buying pieces . (Though, admittedly, I assumed it would just be a variation of Battleship >.>)
Quick Question: how're the teams divided? I still don't know who's on my side of the Sora division (You said 2 initials kings, so I thought it would be 1/2 of the team vs. 1/2 of the team)
Also, if we're facing another group, do we only have to checkmate one king, or both?

Nah, I gave 17 millions to Monday.
BTW, gotta a question. How much is the total amount of chips every team has? Does all the individuals count as teams account or is Individuals and then Team Account?

Re: Rules Questions
OK... Not sure if I quite get your question, so I'll clarify to the best of my ability.
Each player receives 100 coins. 20 of those are automatically deposited in that player's team balance, leaving behind 80 coins for that player's individual balance. The king is an exception, who will have all of his coins placed in his or her team's balance.
You do not have access to the coins in your team's balance. You do not know the number of coins in your team's account, except in a specific circumstance, highlighted later.
When you spend coins, they are deducted from your own balance. If you do not have sufficient coins, you will not be able to buy pieces.
When you manage to keep a piece on one of your grey squares, 10 coins will be removed from your opponent's team balance and added to your individual balance. If less than 10 coins remain in your opponent's team balance, all coins in the opponent's team balance will be added to your individual balance, and it will be publicly announced that there are 0 coins in that account. This is the only circumstance in which a player can learn of a team's balance.
When you capture your opponent's piece, half of that pieces price will be added to your individual account, and the other half will go to your team account, your opponent's team account or an opponent's individual account, at your discretion.
At the end of the game, you exchange all your pieces for coins, at the same rate at which you bought them. You then exchange each coin in your possession for 2 million yen. The same happens for your team account. The money in the team account is divided such that the king gets 50% of it, and the remaining players each get an equal share of the remaining.

Re: Rules Questions
So a player captures, and half of that pieces value goes to the player, the other half is donated to a destination, at that person's discretion.
Is the location of the donation ever announced? So in the event of a betrayal, would nobody actually realise this until it's too late?

Re: Rules Questions
Dysania: That is correct. The location is not announced. If the player does not specify anything by pm-ing his/her dealer, it will be put into that player's team account.

Re: Rules Questions
Okay, slight problems:
1) Are we all going to be active? Such as, is the King able to authorize the team, including himself, to move at once? Or is it one person at a time, like in real chess?
2) Are teammates allowed to kill their own pieces that are on their side? I just want to make sure betrayal doesn't go so far as killing your own teammates at the time.
3) I don't know if it's just me or the wording of how to play, but do I have to buy pieces in order to attack other pieces? I think I do, but just want to be sure.

Re: Rules Questions
I think I can answer most of these myself....
1) The king tells a person they can move a piece, if he doesnt you cannot move it. Only one person on your team will move per turn.
2) i hope not, but Im not sure
3) You need to buy pieces to attack other pieces of course, the only exception is the king piece, which does not need to be bought.

1) 1 person at a time. The king can only authorize one person to move.
2) You can only take enemy pieces. You cannot capture pieces on your own team.
3) You need to buy pieces. PM your dealer when you wish to do so, and he will reply informing you that you have the piece.
Also, Dysania, an extra bit to your question. If a player captures a piece and donates half to an opposing player, that player will be notified.

I have a question, will M be playing? Because if M is playing, the teams won't be equal, and one team will have an advantage in coins. So will she fill in for a person who is not active or something?

Re: Rules Questions
This is a problem we are looking into. We have placed her in Sora, and there is a player in Sora who we are unsure if he is still playing. There is a possibility that the teams will be 6v5, and we are looking at how to solve this problem.
Edit: This has been solved. Monkeyboy dropped out, and M will be playing in Sora.

Re: Rules Questions
Does a forfeit equal to a checkmate, or would there be their own rules for forfeiting? (though I hope the kings don't forfeit just so they can make 80 million yen without doing anything.)

Re: Rules Questions
Forli has it correct.
Also, based on some discussion earlier, it seems there is a misunderstanding: The winning team DOES NOT get the opposing team's account. The only advantage for checkmating is that you move on to round 3 without playing the revival round. And with awesomeness like our revival rounds, why would you want that?
A few players have asked about stalemates: We believe they are highly unlikely. In such an event, the team accounts will be distributed as appropriate, and the game will continue with the re-distributed coins, allowing players to buy pieces. In the event that the team accounts are empty, then all players will be sent to the revival round.
